Grand Falls-Windsor NL – The St. John’s Maple Leafs will be representing Hockey NL at the 2017 Major Midget Atlantic Championship being held in Miramichi, N.B. from March 30th to April 2nd, 2017.  The Leafs swept the Tri Pen Osprey in the Newfoundland Labrador Major Midget Hockey League finals in four games on Sunday afternoon at the Bay Arena in Bay Roberts by trouncing the Osprey 7-2.

Kyle McGrath, Tyler Power and Cody Langmead each scored a pair of goals for the championship team, while Michael Williams added another.   Kyle Tetford and Liam Leonard responding in the losing cause.

Leafs winning goaltender Josh Langmead  stopped 23 shots for the win, while Tristan Gray and Riley Petten shared duties in the pipes for the Osprey.

Maple Leafs player Curtis Heffernan took home the Presidents Trophy for the top Play-Off Performance with 9 goals and 8 assists in 10 games.

The winner of the Atlantic Championship in New Brunswick will represent the Atlantic Region at the National Telus Cup Championship being played in Prince George, BC from April 24-30, 2017.

The League, its fans, and Hockey NL would like to congratulate the St. John’s Maple Leafs and wish them good luck in their quest to the Telus Cup.

The Major Midget provincial league features five teams and showcases the best 15, 16 and 17 year old male hockey players in the province and is a development program for Major Junior and Junior A hockey.
