COACH DEVELOPMENT DAY TO BE HELD IN GANDER

November 13, 2009

On Saturday, November 14, 2009 Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador will be hosting a Coach Development Day in Gander for close to 20 coaches.

This is the second year for the program and this tremendous development opportunity will be delivered to coaches in the Central, Western and Northern areas of the province said Ken Chafe, Hockey Development Chair for the province. “We are targeting experienced coaches in individual communities who in turn can deliver specialty skills clinics to their respective coaches and players when they return home”, said Chafe. Chafe, along with Charlie Quick, Mentorship Program Coordinator and Ed O’Brien, High Performance Program Coordinator, will present both off-ice and on-ice lessons from the Hockey Canada National Coaching Mentorship Program to the participants in attendance.

The premise behind the Coach Development Day is to allow the provincial body and Minor Hockey Associations to focus solely on providing development opportunities to all of their coaches. The sessions will address long term athlete development program and the importance of specialty skills such as skating, puck handling, shooting and scoring and other areas. Each participant will receive resources to assist future coach mentoring.
