HOCKEY CANADA SUMMER SKILLS CAMP SET TO KICK OFF IN MT. PEARL, NL
August 24, 2009
Saint John, NB - Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre will be returning to Newfoundland & Labrador next week for their annual Hockey Canada Summer Skills Development Camp. The camp will run from Aug 24th-28th, 2009 in Mount Pearl, at the Smallwood Arena.
Built on the model of the very successful Hockey Canada Skills Development Camps which have been taking place throughout the country for the past twelve seasons, the camp will offer minor hockey players in the Novice, Atom, Pee Wee, and Female categories an opportunity “to be a member of Team Canada” for five days. This will be the fourth year for this very successful week long Skills Development experience.
One hundred participants from across the province will take part in a variety of on-ice and off-ice activities aimed at skill development with an emphasis on having fun. Off-ice sessions at the camp include presentations on Healthy Living and Respect, as well as Team Building activities, Fitness Sessions and a field trip to the Aquarena. Instructors for the camp will be comprised of experienced coaches from both Hockey Canada and Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador. In addition to these coaches, there will be various Group Leaders from the Mt. Pearl and St. John’s area. Greg Schell from the Toronto Maple Leafs Development Staff will be returning to Mt. Pearl for his third consecutive year to lead both on-ice and off-ice sessions.
“Every year the enthusiasm for the Summer Skills Camp in Mt. Pearl continues to grow, and we are confident that this Camp will provide players with an experience that they will not soon forget.” Nic Jansen, Development Coordinator, Hockey Canada.
